Menopause usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55 and due lower hormone levels, your periods will stop.  However, this can sometimes happen earlier for natural reasons and also due to surgery, genetics and cancer treatments.  Perimenopause is when you have symptoms prior to the stopping of your periods.
